Crater Lake and getting there.

There were some interesting businesses along the way to Crater Lake.

Front entrance to the park. With the senior national park pass, we got in for free! It was the best $10 we ever spent!! But look, there is snow on the ground.
My first picture of the lake. Will the fog clear?!
Bruce

I took this picture in the gift shop in case I couldn't get a descent picture of the lake because of the fog.
Then I got some clear pics.

Fog rising up the mountain.
Fog hitting the lake.

Gnarly trees.

Eastern Oregon to Bend

I made it to the welcome center.
Eastern Oregon is dry and almost desert. Irrigation is the only means of growing anything.
Ponderosa Pines
At the John Day Fossil Center...

There's copper in them thar hills.
A neat totem in front of a house.
We stopped in Fossil, Oregon to dig for fossils. You can go behind the high school where, for a small donation, you can dig and learn about the fossils.
Neat outcrops.

Finally...snow covered mountains.

Boise - day 2

We toured the town after Bruce's morning golf game. They treated him like a king at Quail Hollow Golf Course. We found one in town, too.
Here's a really neat, old church.
Capitol Building
Boise State

We had to travel downtown to get pics of the capitol building and the stadium. Little did we know the rush hour traffic is absolutely horrid!

Boise, ID

Our hotel...
The outside patio where you can enjoy your free hot breakfast...yes, hot!
The river view from my room.
Free cookies and drinks when you arrive!
I want this machine in my house!
They even have treats for the doggies.
I will definitely stay with them again!

Antelope Island, Utah

We wanted to see the Great Salt Lake when we left Salt Lake City. Antelope Island is north of SLC, so off we went. We drove the causeway hoping to see the bison, antelope, and other widelife. I ended up seeing one jack rabbit...and tons of mosquitoes! They were in swarms and you could see "clouds" of them. We figure they must have eaten and bison and antelope.

One side note that you never hear, is that it stinks. We opened the window when we first got to the island and thought we would die! Up on the hillside with the wind blowing, you do not notice it. But right at the beach it's awful.

Salt Lake City

These were the first snow covered peaks we saw when we drove up the middle of Utah. There is something very serene being able to look at them all day.
This is the LDS Temple.
The view from our hotel.

Bruce.
And these were behind Bruce.
This is the old train station The Gateway which is the main entrance to the Gateway shopping extravaganza.
It's block and blocks long.

Northwest Arizona

We left Vegas and took I-15 to Utah...but you go through the very northwest corner of Arizona. Wow, did we have walls of rock to go through. It was almost like a ride at the fair.
