Taking the ferry!

We are at the Casco Bay Lines to catch the ferry to Little Diamond Island. We are going to have a marvelous dinner. Here's the island!
Must know where the life rings are. Don't want to drown.
Safely on the cottage porch. Life is good.

New Hampshire Shore to York, Maine

We decided to take Route 1 up the coast once we hit New Hampshire. We couldn't wait to get a taste and smell of the ocean! We stopped at Saunders for lunch at Rye Beach. Don't let the modest outside fool you. The restaurant was huge with many rooms and a five star menu!
This was the view from our dining room. I had one of the best spinach salads I've had in over ten years. The seafood sampler was to die for.
Once in Maine, we found the prison store in York. Most of the items are hand made by prisoners. The bonus was being able to get a picture of this old prison truck.

A Night in Connecticut

We had just crossed the border from New York into Connecticut and hit Danbury at rush hour! It was raining. We were tired. We wanted OUT! We would stay anywhere. "Anywhere" just happened to be one of the best motels/inns we have stayed in...The Stony Hill Inn! The setting was idyllic. Imagine waking up to this view!
Michelle and I walked over to the gazebo in the morning. She is paying close attention to what's in the pond.
Swans can be aggressive and Michelle doesn't want to be lunch!
To top off our stay at this fabulous inn, Bruce got a coupon for a free bucket of balls at their driving range. Yes, they have a golf course, too! It was a good way to stretch the muscles before driving all day.

She's done!

This is Michelle. She has all her legs and a mouth. It's a smirky one, but a mouth no less. She's helping me pack for Maine. We are leaving tomorrow after we pack the car. We are taking three days to make the trip. The older we get, the longer it takes. One day it will take us a week, I'm sure.

I can not wait to see the adventures that Michelle has on this trip! :-)

The Great Escape

She's so excited she's almost finished that she is trying to get out of my knitting bag. She doesn't have all her legs yet...or even a mouth to call for help! So, here she sits accusingly (you can tell by the look in her eyes and her pouty mouth - if she had one) waiting for me to finish her.

It's the little things in life...

What a cute crab! My friend Peggy got me interested in this pattern from Knitty.com. When I took a close look at it and remembered that the TV show "The Deadliest Catch" is one of my daughter's and fiance`s favorite show, I knew I had to make it. I would toss it in my Christmas box. It would be a little surprise for the house.

I started knitting. I fell in love. I can not part with THIS one. Isn't she cute staring out from her pot? Yes, it's a she.
The poor little legless thing! I have done four legs. Four more to go and I can attach them. The timing is perfect. I will have her finished before I go to Maine. We will have our picture taken together all over Maine. Then she will come back with me and have a place of honor on my fishing net in the den.

I can always make another to send north...and my first may need a companion. Such a fun knit! Thank you, Amber Allison, for such a great pattern!

Now, to find her perfect name...

Toot! Toot!

Yes, that's me tooting my own horn. I know..."Pride goeth before the fall." It's done. I entered it in the county fair. I won some ribbons. Now I can take it to my daughter in Maine.

It's the Seascape Shawl. I fittingly used hand spun merino and seacell. Seacell is a man made fiber from seaweed. I also strung some cream coloured beads on one of the plies. Occasionally you find one...like you would occasionally would find a pearl on the beach. Yeah, that happens a lot, eh?

The last time I entered a dubbelmossa in a competition (12 years ago), I won some ribbons and it also went to my daughter. At least she's getting the best of what I'm doing.

Boston Harbor, Washington

After coming all the way from Tennessee, I was anxious to see the Pacific Ocean. What does one do after driving all day? They go for a ride in the car! It wasn't disappointing. Look at the jewel we found. It was one of the more memorable days of our trip. I can't believe I forgot to add it before Vancouver. Obviously, it was meant to be.

With the bonus of a store and seating....
where we could look at this!
Les already is taking on the salty look.
We tried a local brew...excellent!
And here's Annie....
and Tom...
and Bruce.
We looked pretty stressed, eh?
Our local pirate is watching over us so we don't get in trouble.
This appears to be the mascot for the harbor.
The statue has come to life.
This is Scotty...from Scotland. He and his family moved here years and years ago.
He graciously joined us for a drink and captured our hearts with some of his life's tales.
It was a pleasant end to our day.

The Badlands

The Badlands go on for quite awhile. You'll definitely want to click on the first pic. I stitched it together (which you will easily see) using Canon PhotoStitch. I'm sure there is a tutorial on blending sky which I will never read unless I stumble upon it.The entire place seems to distort what a person knows about spacial relationships and distance.
...and you can see forever!

This is almost the same shot but look what a slight difference in angle does. No wonder we saw so many photographers there.

Prairie dogs!

Part 2 next....

The Badlands...part 2

I'm having trouble getting google to upload photos but I'm saving what I can. I found that since a new photo goes to the beginning of the post, it's easier to load the pictures in reverse...starting with the last photo...which is now at the end.You didn't have to warn me twice.
I figure the path was a way of keeping people off the ground.

We spotted more animals in this park that any other place we had been. The sounds of the birds early in the morning is not to be missed. I think the park might want to think about making a recording of the birds...if they haven't already.

Wotanka! Well, at least we thought so. We were all excited until we found a road that took us near them and discovered it was and a pasture full of black angus outside the park .

We saw a pair of badgers!
They saw us and ran for the hills.

So here is the end of the park. :-0Notice the spikes at the top of the sign to keep the birds from landing.
Just outside the park we took this picture. I saw the giant bull and thought of the advertisement all over Spain for sherry. It wasn't until I went to resize the picture that I saw what it was. It's Babe...Paul Bunyan's blue ox. At least I'm pretty sure it is. The giveaway was the large hammer on the ground. You can tell how big everything is by the horse in the picture. Click on the pic to make it bigger.
Fini
p.s. Because I have been writing about cattle, look what came on my webpage.
Who says they aren't watching!!!
